Thoughtful Thursday….. A Wardrobe Change

21st October…….  weather very changeable.  Time I think to get the big coats out, rediscover the wooly hats, scarves and gloves …. best to make the most of any sunshine and breaks in the weather we might be lucky to receive.

And whilst doing all that…..

One Year on………

A year ago the River Derwent had burst its banks.  Flooding over a wide area of Derbyshire.  The above image was taken as the waters receded.  But respite was short lived and floods returned in December and lasted well into February.

Despite the heavy rains over the past few days, and indeed an extended wet period in October, the River Derwent is running past Darley Abbey in a sedate fashion, Autumn colours reflecting in the smooth waters…

The last few days have also seen some high winds,  as always in autumn it has stripped many trees of their leaves.  But in todays brief splash of early morning sunshine, like the river, all looks calm, mellow and autumnal.

Sunshine and Wet Leaves…..

November days…..  sometimes sunny, often damp and always a carpet of leaves.  Doesn’t sound that appealing but somehow that makes November rather special.

Even when the sun goes into hiding, the golden coloured Beech leaves glisten over the Lake…….  soon they all will be gone and just skeletons to mark their passing.

Autumn looks set to stay for awhile….

Frost and Fog welcomed in this November Saturday. The Fog turned to Mist that lingered for most of the day, a Mist giving a different flavour to Autumn…

The forecaster did suggest that we would enjoy some sunny intervals.  They were right, but may be bright spells would have been more accurate.  Not complaining as I guess for November it was rather a grand day to be able to be out and about.  Our Local Park was the destination, a Park that is for ever changing, different each season and each day… Today we  started by the Lake then headed up to more open ground…

The mature Oak, are as usual, hanging onto their leafy canopy for awhile longer, a contrast in colour to the Birch.

Fungi, in the shape and colour of Fly Agaric, are still fighting the frosts.  The animals that nibble them, and in this case, big two legged folk who seem to take great pleasure in kicking them about…  still they come back year after year despite the abuse

All in all not a bad Saturday walk.  That sun still tried its best to kill off the mist….but for the most part failed.

This is our first Saturday under the new Lockdown measures, so…..
