Ashford in the Water is a rather charming Derbyshire stone village in the Peak District. At its heart is the ancient Holy Trinity Church. Ashford certainly wasn’t the intended destination, but we had heard that last week they had celebrated their Well Dressing Festival. So we diverted to the village just to see, if by chance, the Wells were still dressed. Not sure that they would be as colourful as when erected, but as they say better late than never.
What we were also unaware that within the Church, was the Villages Annual Flower Festival. Villagers had created some, one can only say fabulous displays or should that be arrangements, and again over a week old yet still full of creative vibrance. …
The Theme for this year was “The Musicals”

‘Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat’ was the centre piece at the Altar… full of detail that told the story so well.
There were 14 arrangements to enjoy and enjoy we did. Here are just a few… can you spot Sister Act, The Wizard of Oz, Frozen, The Sound of Music and Phantom of the Opera …
As we left the Church the Stewards asked use which Arrangement was our favourite…. it was a question we couldn’t answer, we just congratulated all the artistic floral creators.

Now back to that quick decision to detour to see if the Well Dressings were still in place. Would they still be as colourful, had they suffered in the bad weather of last week and the weekend ? Well judge for yourselves….

I guess sometimes one just has to take those detours and make quick decisions to change plans… I am glad we did.
As always…..
