Clear skies over the Isle of Skye. A rare autumn morning on this enchanting Scottish Island…… Early morning mist rising from Loch Greshornish and the prospects of a rather fine day…… and it was. Memories

I still nurture hopes of visiting some of the Scottish isles some day, especially Islay, where my very favorite single malt (Lagavulin) is crafted.

Jura, the island much smaller neighbour to Islay – a 10 minute ferry ride away, has a fabulous distillery and a range of aged Single Malts. They all go under the name of Jura with various brand sub names. Jura “Origin” or Jura “The Journey” (and several others dependent upon age) well worth trying for starters. Lagavulin was my favourite but my allegiance has drifted to Jura which is very similar in taste and aroma but I now find just that touch mellower (just like me in my old age!) But what ever your taste you would enjoy both islands 🙂

I am familiar with the Jura line, thanks to one of my music compatriots, and they are very nice, but I have fallen down the seductive rabbit-hole of the ultimate peaty smokiness of Lagavulin. Research has shown that there’s one called Octomore, which is reported to be even more smoky, but I haven’t splurged on one of them yet. Have you ever tried it?

At least you can say you have been…. for many of us memories can add some sanity to these strange times. I will try to find some more memories of Skye for you 🙂

Oh, please! My mother used to talk of Skye, she had been a couple of times, showed me a book of Poucher’s photos, and a few snaps of her own. It was Duntulm castle that beckoned, but 60 years after her visit there was very little left….
