With February comes the first signs of Spring. The iconic Snowdrop is usually the first of the Spring Bulbs to bring us hope that Spring is really on the way…. sadly their life is short.
I say iconic as Snowdrops have been a symbol of Spring for a great many generations….
An early Victorian Greeting Cards – though this one was used to send Easter Greetings, which begs the question “Have the Seasons changed ?”

Snowdrops? I have never ‘seen’ them before. Our spring is proving tragically short

They are beautiful tiny flower…. the stems seem so fragile yet sturdy enough to stand up to the ravages of winter weather.

And, they flower only at this time?

Can I assume they are sensitive to temperature?
I always thought the spring blossoms in Japan were over-hyped until one year when I was in Japan, and the flowers were blooming.
I thought they were beautiful, but my Japanese friends told me the flowers had not bloomed properly because of the heat. They were worried about global warming.
And this was 15 years ago!

I guess you can say they enjoy a cold February. They are also gone before there is any significant increase in Spring temperatures.

Yes. They do. The cherry blossom! That’s what the Japanese one is called

The ones here are a little ahead of last year – up to two weeks at a guess. I’m not sure how upright they’ll be after Storm Eunice has passed by.
