St. Michael and St. Marys, Melbourne, Derbyshire
In the heart of this small Derbyshire Market Town is this rather splendid church…often referred to as a ‘Cathedral in Miniature’. Tall. spacious and very grand for such a small community.
Small as the town maybe, it does have some well known historic connections. One of its famous sons was none other than Thomas Cook who was born here in 1808 and simply described as a ‘Travel Agent’. Well he was the first to see the potential in enabling ‘ordinary’ people to explore the world, and in so doing created an Industry out or Travel
Melbourne itself also has Australian connections. Viscount Melbourne, one time Prime Minister to Queen Victoria and Royal Viscount. The Queens respect for Melbourne, as her Prime Minister and confidante, encouraged her in the naming of Melbourne, Australia.
Sunday and traditionally a day to relax…. building up momentum to tackle the new week ahead.
Whatever comes our way…..as always….
