Saint Marys Church, Derby
Within the City of Derby, we have a number of large Churches, including a Cathedral. One of these City Churches, is Saint Marys, with its tall tower it rather dominates the skyline. and also Cathedral like.
Saint Marys isn’t as old as many of its neighbours. Opened in 1839, it also marked the emancipation of Catholicism in England. It was a powerful statement. The famous Architect for the project was Augustus Pugin and reflects his favourite Gothic styling… and for its execution, he engaged some of the best specialist Craftsmen for stone work, wood carving and its glass windows.
